  • URGENT: Enterprise Server Scheduled Downtime

May 22, 2008 by Michael Foo
  • THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED

    Dear Valued Customers,
We regret to inform you that we have to take down our Enterprise server (enterprise.kkhost.net) for a hardware inspection and replacement, due to the degraded server performance that we are experiencing at this moment. For your information, we have determined that either the memory chip in DIMM SLOT 2 of our Enterprise server has gone bad or the motherboard DIMM SLOT's have gone bad.

This is causing over 4 GB of memory to go unrecognized on the server, and is resulting in dramatically increased loads and system slowness. Our server is still running at the moment but it is responding dramatically slow.

In order to correctly diagnose and resolve this issue, we are required to power down the Enterprise server in Colo4dallas (Dallas, TX) at approximately 3:00AM GMT+8 and perform some tests on both the motherboard and memory chips. This process can take well over an hour, as the hardware diagnostics are very thorough.

Once we have determined which component has failed, a Dell Enterprise Technician will be dispatched to the datacenter and will replace the faulty part, be it either the motherboard, memory chip or both. Our server provider does have a 4-hour hardware replacement guarantee, and we will do our best to bring the server back on in degraded mode after the diagnosis, and then bring it back down once the technician arrives. This will ensure the least amount of downtime for your websites.

However, there may be a chance that we will NOT be able to turn the server back on in degraded mode after the diagnostic mode, and will be required to wait the 4 hour period for the Dell technician to come and replace the necessary part before we can power the server back on.

We thank you for your patience and understanding, as these kind of hardware errors do happen but we can do our best to make sure the downtime is as little as possible. Please email us at support@kkhost.net if you have any direct questions for me.

    Thank you!

    Sincerely,
